NOBUG’s purpose…
The Northern Oregon BackOffice Professionals , formerly the Northern Oregon BackOffice User Group, is a Portland, Oregon based group of professionals serving mid and northern Oregon and southern Washington. We meet monthly on 2nd Tuesday of the month in the evening from 6 to 9 PM at the PCC campus next to OMSI in Portland. The meetings consist of introductions, speaker presentation and raffle drawing. We draw top specialists from industry and from Microsoft to present topics focusing on the integration of products within the Microsoft BackOffice suite. BackOffice consists of the server software: NT, Internet Information Server (IIS), SQL Server, Systems Management Server (SMS), Exchange Server, and SNA Server. These are not the only products, as the BackOffice suite is growing to include Index Server, Transaction Server, Proxy Server and more. We coordinate with most other Microsoft user groups in the area to provide complimentary subject matter. While there are groups covering one particular product, we specialize in the impact, interface, and integration of two or more Microsoft server products. Also, the integration of BackOffice software with Microsoft Office, other database products, other web software and other 3rd party vendor offerings will be featured. Our main area of interest is in the expanding or rather exploding technology of the internet. Thus, the products we talk about the most are NT, IIS, and SQL Server. Exchange is coming into play more, too. Web integration is obviously a favorite topic. Another big interest is Microsoft certification. Our presentations will have a wider perspective than just the administrative aspect of maintaining the products. We will take a look at development issues, technical issues and business issues. Some presentations will be more results-oriented (what can be done with the products) and some will be quite technical (an inside look at how the products work). We hope we can provide a fun and enlightening, non-glitz look at the integration of the Microsoft BackOffice suite of products in action from people who are the top in the field. Audience: Solution Providers, consultants, corporate system administrators, database administrators, network integrators, and especially developers are welcome. NOBUG Team
